Canadian blues treasure, Jackie Washington, has died at 89. Among his distinctions, Washington was Canada's first black disc jockey. He has played with the likes of Duke Ellington, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Lionel Hampton, Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell.
I've seen him perform at a number of festivals spanning many years. He was a great entertainer, and I always looked forward to his sets.
