This is an old one but it is a good one. A wonderful documentary that has everybody that is anybody in the blues in it. Of course it has Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, The Rolling Stones, Willie Dixon, Son House and many others.

Paul Jones

I listen every Monday evening to BBC2 and Paul's' show.

Paul was offered the job of leading singer by Brian Jones in a fledling band called The Rolling Stones. He became lead in the Manfred Mann Band they wrote a signature tune for the TV programme “Ready, Steady, Go!” - providing their first hit, “5-4-3-2-1”

Paul is a major player - appears with Memphis Slim here

The Blues Band were formed in 1979 by Paul on vocals and harmonica, Dave Kelly, who had formerly played with the John Dummer Blues Band, Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker .

The SqueezeMyLemon All Stars

Every now and then you find a clip on YouTube that is just so delightful. This is an example, I call this clip the "SqueezeMyLemon All Stars." I would have loved being at this show. But it just so happens that this was filmed in 1963, I was two years old at the time.

Can you imagine seeing Otis Spann, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Big Joe Williams, Willie Dixon, Victoria Spivey, Muddy Waters, Lonnie Johnson and Memphis Slim all on the same stage.

I like Memphis Slim's music so much that I'm not sure that I can be objective. I have no problem calling him one of the greatest blues piano players of all time. And his singing is up there with the best blues vocalist too. I have to admit that I have never heard one of his CDs that I did not like. This one is no different. This album was issued on the Jubilee label in 1967 and is a very nice showing of Memphis Slims piano playing, this reissue is mastered from the original so it lives up to the first issue. And now we get it on CD.

John "Memphis Slim" Chatman was born on September 3, 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee. He died February 24 in 1988 in Paris, France. He was a blues pianist, singer, and composer.

A commenter at YouTube states that this video may be one of the last TV appearances of Memphis Slim. The narrator says that he's 72 years old and this video is from late 1987 or early 1988.
