Jeff Beck - Emotion and Commotion

I love Jeff Beck - this album is good!

It seems a bit strange to me that I have hardly talked about Jeff’s incredibly guitar playing in this review, but it is because Jeff makes instrumental guitar albums like no-one else. You can almost forget that you are listening to a guitar as you hear melodies and intricacies unachievable by most guitar players. If you are a fan of Jeff Beck you will love this album,
Jeff Beck has to be the most eclectic of the great guitar heroes, rarely restricting himself to a single mode across an entire album,

John Surman - Brewster's Rooster 2009

John Surman is an English jazz saxophone, bass clarinet and synthesizer player and composer of free jazz and modal jazz often using themes from folk music as a basis.

Over the last 40 years John Surman has been one of the foremost innovators when it comes to defining the saxophone's place in modern music. This restless approach that's given us solo works with synthesizers, entirely sax-based ensembles, pipe organ etc. means that when Brewster's Rooster - a work of what can only be defined as straight ahead jazz - hits the turntable, you know it's going to be special.

Tinariwen - Companions 2009

Tinariwen's biography has variously been described as "the most compelling of any band" (Songlines), "the most rock'n'roll of them all" (The Irish Times), "hard-bitten" (, and "dramatic" (The Independent)
the original exponents of the ‘Ishumar rock’ (Touareg rebel music)

BBC Review

It hypnotically blends Malian desert blues with twanging guitar-led Tichumaren agit-prop

Johnny Cash — The Man Comes Around

A very moving album - I listen to it quite a lot.

The phrase "There's a man going around taking names" which begins the song is not merely a Biblical reference, it also refers to the song of that name popularized by folk singer Lead Belly

How does Johnny Cash do it? Take a hoary old chestnut like ''Bridge Over Troubled Water'': You've heard it so many times you're not just sick of it but are completely numb to any impact it might have. But yet here comes Mr Cash with that familiar wobbly, rough as torn sandpaper voice and yes, the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, and you're on the verge of tears, such is the emotional power he can still generate.

Aynsley Lister - Tower Sessions 2010

Blues Rock Review

The album plays great from start to finish and has the "live" feel. Lister has been one of the most underrated artists in the Blues-Rock genre for a long time, but Tower Sessions shows he belongs at the top

Aynsley Lister is an English blues-rock guitarist/singer and songwriter - check him out
