Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones Video

After re-reading my post on Keith Richards where I dropped the F bomb about how much I love The Rolling Stones, I thought OK, you could be overstating the case a bit.

You know I might be a fan boy or something, then I came across the video below.  And I wanted to be even more emphatic about how much I love these guys, and their music and what I think they have done to promote blues and other blues musicians. 

Again I could write thousands of words and still not describe how cool this video is. 

But I think you can see the love that Muddy Waters had for the Stones and you can also see that they loved Muddy too.

Notes from YouTube: On 22 November 1981, in the middle of their mammoth American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago prior to playing 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon.

Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Buddy Guy's club the Checkerboard Lounge to see the legendary bluesman perform. It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part.

It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. Now, restored from the original footage and with sound mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this amazing blues night is being made available in an official release for the first time.

The video is top notch as well as the Audio. Each of these blues artists are legions in there own right and there performances show why. The back up musicians for all 3 are extremely tight and are well practiced in their art. This recording holds the last live recorded video of Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. A blues super hero who will be sorely missed. Santana is always in the back ground and never takes over the show, I liked that very much. It's the Birthday of Buddy Guy

Today is the birthday of George "Buddy" Guy (born July 30, 1936). He is a five-time Grammy Award-winning blues and rock guitarist and singer. Known as an inspiration to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and other 1960s blues and rock legends, Guy is considered an important exponent of Chicago blues. He is the father of female rapper Shawnna and son Michael.

2009 two CD release. Cobra Records was founded in 1956 by Eli Toscano, a record shop owner in Chicago. He sensibly left all the creative decisions to his in-house producer and writer Willie Dixon, who had just left Chess Records. Dixon then signed the three best second generation performers of Chicago Blues: Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Magic Sam. He wrote them some great songs and encouraged them to develop the single note guitar leads that distinguished their style.

Six Strings Down Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan

Someone asked a question about the song Six Strings Down. And it reminded me that I own the DVD A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and that song is on it. I had loaned it out to so many different people, because I wanted them to see what other musicians thought about Stevie Ray Vaughan, that I was worried that I had lost it.

So I had to go to my DVD collection to see if I could find it. I had not viewed it in a few years. I hate to admit that I own so much music that even putting a lot of it on heavy rotation I still do not get around to listening to a lot of it. So much good blues music, so little time I always say.

It is a very cool DVD and the song Six Strings Down is a very cool song. Check out the YouTube video below.

This 1996 concert tribute underscores that common denominator through muscular performances from contemporary blues masters who readily (and appropriately) confirm the Texas guitarist as a true peer--it's no small matter that bona fide influences Buddy Guy and B.B. King cite the honoree on an equal plane with Vaughan's most obvious rock forebear, Jimi Hendrix.

King and Guy are among the stars who interpret Vaughan's own songbook in live performances backed by either his old band, Double Trouble, or the larger Tilt-a-Whirl Band. Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Dr. John, and the late guitarslinger's big brother, Jimmie Vaughan (himself a major figure since his days with the Fabulous Thunderbirds) all pay gritty musical homage noteworthy for powerhouse guitar work.
