Shemekia Copeland - God's Word
Shemekia Copeland began appearing on stage with her father, Texas bluesman Johnny Copeland, this version appeared on PBS
Barnes &Noble review of the album Vietnam Blues where the original track is
These recordings aren't nostalgic endeavors, however, but ensure that the songs get the best listening environment possible. The enigmatic Lenoir called the style he was developing during these sessions, "African Hunch," and it's apparent that he was bursting with creativity, dedicated equally to both the words and music.

Shemekia Copeland: The Joy Of Singing Blues on NPR
Never Going BackNPR's Liane Hansen interviewed Shemekia Copeland recently Shemekia Copeland: The Joy Of Singing Blues on NPR.
She talks about her new album Never Going Back. Growing up with her famous dad, the legendary blues guitarist Johnny Clyde Copeland. She laughs often during this interview, which makes me think that she is happy. Which beleive it or not, I think helps to make some good blues music.
I also noted that she updated her MySpace photo albums, you can check them out here >> Shemekia Copeland @MySpace.
According to Ms. Hansen's interview;
Singer Shemekia Copeland knows the blues, but maintains that singing it doesn't always have to be sad.There are also links to a couple of her songs.
"I think blues gets a bad rap for its name, unfortunately," Copeland says. "Blues is just like country, in that it's just telling stories. Sometimes they're sad and sometimes they're happy. I have a song on a previous record called 'I'm a Wild Woman and You're a Lucky Man.' There's nothing sad about that."

Shemekia Copeland Video
In yesterdays post I mentioned that Shemekia Copeland is scheduled to perform at the Sunflower River Blues & Gospel Festival. And then it dawned on me that Ms. Copland is one of the young guns in the blues world that I have never written anything about.
She's a three time W.C. Handy Award Winning blues singer and the daughter of blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland. She started her career at the age of sixteen. Her debut album "Turn the Heat Up!" came out in 1998 was well received. Her second album, "Wicked", was released in 2000 and featured a duet with one of her heroes, early R&B diva Ruth Brown. After that she was produced by Dr. John on her recording "Talking to Strangers", and in 2005 she released "The Soul Truth", which was produced by Steve Cropper.
So I thought I would share one of her YouTube videos as well as links to her websites and music.
