"You Are My Sunshine" is a popular song first recorded in 1939. It has been declared one of the state songs of Louisiana as a result of its association with former state governor and country music singer Jimmie Davis
In 1979 Kent met up with his beloved and ever faithful Leadbessie. She’s a beat up 1934 National Steel Guitar that wows and astounds audiences when the equally beat up case she travels in is opened and her extra heavy strings are furiously played. Kent discovered and looked up a legendary blues man with the name of Johnny Shines in 1989.
This video is delightful to me for several reasons.
First the person who uploaded it, recorded it off of his telivision set. Which in my mind means he really liked it, and possible had no other way to record it.
And secondly, he did a reall good job. Which indicates that he, like me is a Freddie King fan. :)
It works: Poor Moon is a fantastic, on-repeat record that recalls
the aesthetic risks and rewards of the best stuff produced by Laurel
Canyon's singer-songwriters and, decades later, the stylistically daring
musicians associated with New Weird America.
From a much earlier Tampa Red song - see Wikipedia - this is one of the most interpreted Blues songs - with the Elmore James version being most familiar. These are just 3 of these - but lots more out there.
You say you hurting, you almost lost your mind
The man you love, he hurts you all the time
When things go wrong, go wrong with you
It hurts me too
After re-reading my post on Keith Richards where I dropped the F bomb about how much I love The Rolling Stones, I thought OK, you could be overstating the case a bit.
You know I might be a fan boy or something, then I came across the video below. And I wanted to be even more emphatic about how much I love these guys, and their music and what I think they have done to promote blues and other blues musicians.
Again I could write thousands of words and still not describe how cool this video is.
But I think you can see the love that Muddy Waters had for the Stones and you can also see that they loved Muddy too.
Notes from YouTube: On 22 November 1981, in the middle of their mammoth American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago prior to playing 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon.
Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Buddy Guy's club the Checkerboard Lounge to see the legendary bluesman perform.
It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part.
It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. Now, restored from the original footage and with sound mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this amazing blues night is being made available in an official release for the first time.
Here is a nice YouTube video that you may enjoy, especially if you like harmonica playing and blues music. The video is just a bit over an hour long, so grab some refreshments sit back and enjoy.
Notes from YouTube:
Carey Bell - Live at the International Jazz Festival (Bern, Switzerland 2000)
Carey Bell - Harmonica & Vox
Steve Jacobs - Guitar
Johannes Pach - Keyboards
T.A. James - Bass
Marc Tiffault - Drums
I don't want to gush, but I fucking love the music of the Rolling Stones, and Keith Richards in my opinion has a special place in heaven reserved for blues guitarist.
I would say more, but it is probably better if you just watch the videos and maybe check out the book.
Today is the birthday of B.B. King. He was born Riley B. King on September 16 in 1925. That makes him 87 years old. He is one of the senior bluesmen alive today.
And if you are wondering, yes sir Mr. King has still got it.
He still thrills me. I hope and pray that he has a wonderful day.
I could go on and on about him, becuase I truly do love him, his music and have seen him live many times. So I'm going to keep this one short, by saying "Happy Birthday Mr. King."
Many of his compositions are considered jazz standards. As a member of Miles Davis' band in the 1960s, he participated in the birth of the electric jazz fusion movement. In the 1970s he formed Return to Forever.[2] Along with Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner and Keith Jarrett, he has been described as one of the major jazz piano voices to emerge in the post-John Coltrane era
John Lee Hooker wails in a stylized 1966 primary colors photo graphic on the front of this premium grey, 100% cotton t-shirt. Presented by and featuring a photograph by legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall, with distressed overdye print and soft, reinforced construction for authentic vintage style and quality, this is a a truly stunning tee for fans of the legendary king of the electric blues.
Very nice indeed. Sister Rosetta Tharpe did it before anybody else.
Gospel, blues, and jazz it is all in there. Not to mention smoking hot chops on the guitar.
....From her home in Finland, she has ventured out to captivate
audiences throughout Europe and recorded albums in places as far flung
as her own Seasound Studio in Helsinki and the heart of the Mississippi

Led Zeppelin Announced their ‘Celebration Day’ Concert Film Details and posted the trailer on their official YouTube Channel.
So it looks like the big surprise countdown was leading up to this. I personally can't wait to get my hands on the DVD.
The British rock and roll band will release its 2007 "Celebration Day" reunion as a concert film on Oct. 13. They will also put out the film on multiple video and audio formats on Nov. 19.
Original band members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were joined onstage by Jason Bonham, son of the late drummer John Bonham, for the tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
"Stairway to Heaven (a fan favorite)," ''Kashmir" and "Dazed and Confused" and another 16 songs or so will be in the two-hour concert film.
The film will be shown in 1,500 theaters around the world. Tickets are available at the band's website, http://www.ledzeppelin.com/ .

In the latest Rolling Stone Magazine interview Bob Dylan said...
These are the same people that tried to pin the name Judas on me. Judas, the
most hated name in human history! If you think you've been called a bad name,
try to work your way out from under that. Yeah, and for what? For playing an
electric guitar? As if that is in some kind of way equitable to betraying our
Lord and delivering him up to be crucified.
The venue was packed with very knowledgeable and hospitable fans - I'll certainly be going there again.
Alvin was full of polished anecdotes, a profound knowledge of the Blues and a marvellous pedigree which was demonstrated by his consummate musical skills.
A 5* concert - as one of the comments on these videos state 'Alvin is the real deal'
.... The universal nature of her music is thanks to her fluency in several
languages (she’s just as happy singing in English, Portuguese or
Yoruba), as well as influences derived from different parts of the
world, including Latin America, Europe and Africa. The latter is
especially important. Layori was born in Nigeria, and seeks to integrate
her African roots in everything she does ...
I like to make the point that gospel / blues music is very far reaching. This delightful clip makes the point very well I think. The story is fascinating, and the song puts a smile on my face. I hope y'all like it too.

1. We love to review new music, but can be fairly slow at it. So please understand that it may take a while.
2. Because you send us CDs or links to your mp3s it does not mean that we
will review it. Just want to make that clear, there is no quid pro
quo.
3. We like a lot of different music, and will only write about music that we
like. If we don't like your music we will probably not waste your or our
time writing about it. That is just the way we are.
4. If we don't like your music, so what? There is no accounting for
taste and we are blogging about the blues in a small way, so don't
take it so hard.
This video is one of my favorite Albert Collins. Here he is playing some low down and dirity blues. Just the kind that I like. The guitar solo is classic Albert Collins.
Live At The Moody Theater by Warren Haynes
Band doesn’t feel like a sampling of live material, rather it is a rare
example of a live album that puts the listener into the room with the
band. And this is a treat when you consider that Warren Haynes is the
master of jamming, gigging, and collaborating.....
CDuniverse .... A stunning live concert, recorded in November
2011 at the Moody Theater in Austin, TX, captured in dazzling High
Definition state-of-the-art video and 5.1 audio....
