From the Archives: Here is a post I did to remember R.L Burnside when he passed away. I edited out some of the links that no longer worked.
He is probably in heaven sitting down.

It's The Birthday of R.L. Burnside - Blues Story - Poor Black mattie
R. L. Burnside was born on November 23, 1926, and he passed away on September 1, 2005. May God rest his soul. I imagine that if heaven has a front poarch he is sitting out there playing his guitar.
He was a Delta blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist who lived much of his life in and around Holly Springs, Mississippi. I remember when he came on my radar screen back in the early 1990s, I played a cassette tape of his over and over. Wanting everybody I knew to hear this music. You could tell that he had been playing and living the blues all his life. Too bad that he only received reconigition in the latter part of his life.
These two videos below, give a glimpse into his world and his music.

New Release Cedric Burnside & Lightnin' Malcolm - 2 Man Wrecking Crew
Cedric Burnside, R.L. Burnside's grandson and son of blues drummer Calvin Jackson, was born ans raised playing Mississippi delta blues. He is another example of a young man who can play the blues. At 30 years old he is considered one of the best drummers in the blues biz today.

Born in rural Missouri, Malcolm enjoyed the freedom of country life, quickly learning to entertain himself and others around him. It's the Birthday of Junior Kimbrough and Mike Bloomfield
Today is the Birthday of a couple of prominant blues men.
Up first is Junior Kimbrough, who was born on this day back in 1930. He passed away after having a strok on January 17, in 1998.
Wikipedia states;
Born David Kimbrough in Hudsonville, Mississippi, Kimbrough lived in the North Mississippi Hill Country around Holly Springs. He recorded for the Fat Possum Records label. He was a long-time associate of labelmate R. L. Burnside, and the Burnside and Kimbrough families often collaborated on musical projects. This relationship continues today. Burnside called Kimbrough "the beginning and end of all music." This is written on Kimbrough's tombstone outside his family's church, the Kimbrough Family Church, in Holly Springs.
Beginning around 1992, Kimbrough operated a juke joint known as "Junior's Place" in Chulahoma, Mississippi, which attracted visitors from around the world, including members of U2 and The Rolling Stones. Kimbrough's sons, musicians Kinney and David Malone Kimbrough (two of Kimbrough's rumored to be twenty-eight children), kept it open following his death, until it burned to the ground on April 6, 2000.

On February 15, 1981 Bloomfield was found dead in San Francisco in his parked car. According to his friends, the size of the heroin dose that killed him meant that he probably did not drive to this spot and overdose, rather that the lethal dose had been administered somewhere else and he had been driven to this spot to avoid complications for his drug-ingesting cohorts. The official cause of death was ruled an accidental drug overdose.

Delta Blues Music
When I think of blues music, the Delta Blues is what usually comes to mind. According to Wikipedia;
The Delta blues is one of the earliest styles of blues music. It originated in the Mississippi Delta, a region of the United States that stretches from Memphis, Tennessee in the north to Vicksburg, Mississippi in the south, the Mississippi River on the west to the Yazoo River on the east. The Mississippi Delta area is famous both for its fertile soil and its extreme poverty. Guitar and harmonica are the dominant instruments used.
