It's the Birthday of Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown was born on April 18, back in 1924 and passed away on September 10, 2005.
He is best known for his work as a blues musician, but embraced other styles of music, having "spent his career fighting purism by synthesizing old blues, country, jazz, Cajun and R & B styles" (New York Times obituary).[2]
He was an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, who played an array of musical instruments such as guitar, fiddle, mandolin, viola as well as harmonica and drums. He won a Grammy Award for Traditional Blues in 1983 for his album, Alright Again!

Blues At Montreux Blu-ray DVD

According to a reviewer at Amazon.com;
This is like getting 3 Great blues concerts for the price of 1. Each artist has his own stage performance along with a guest performance of Corlos Santana. The video is top notch as well as the Audio. Each of these blues artists are legions in there own right and there performances show why. The back up musicians for all 3 are extremely tight and are well practiced in their art. This recording holds the last live recorded video of Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. A blues super hero who will be sorely missed. Santana is always in the back ground and never takes over the show, I liked that very much. His performances were stunning never the less, showing the various styles he can adapt to. If you are a blues fan or a Santana fan this will make you both. Don't deprive yourself, get this one!

Songs Of The Rolling Stones: All Blues'd Up!
While doing some research on a Rolling Stone's song I came across the mp3 album Songs Of The Rolling Stones: All Blues'd Up!.
I'm not sure how this album slipped under my radar, but I missed it back when it was released in July 9th, 2002.
And I would like to present it to you today, because I love how it highlights the blues music of the Rolling Stones and because their songs are performed by some great blues musicians.

Ike Disturbes Clarence Gatemouth Brown's Rest
A SqueezeMyLemon reader Johncn left the following comment;
It appears that a DIFFERENT bluesman by the name of Brown - Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown - had Hurricane Ike wash his grave and casket away over the weekend. Exactly three years after his death following Hurricane Katrina. Bizarre.He also provided a link to the AP article that documents the incident; Even dead seemed to try to flee Ike's wrath. The article begins with;
ORANGE, Texas (AP) -- Hurricane Katrina chased bluesman Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown from his adopted home in New Orleans to his hometown here on the Texas Gulf Coast, where he died in exile. Now, another hurricane has disturbed his rest.And while this is bizarre, it is a common occurrence down in Louisiana. There are many stories of graves being washed up and people's bodies being washed back to their home town.
A couple of friends, who are originally from Houston, and I were just talking about this on the weekend. My friends' brother and father got a lot of damage to their property from Ike.
May God bless Gatmouth's soul and allow him a final resting place. And may God help all those who suffer during these big storms.
