Merry Christmas Baby: A Compilation

I've always liked the Christmas song Merry Christmas Baby. The first version that I ever heard was the blues singer Charles Brown's version.

According to Wikipedia;

"Merry Christmas, Baby" is an R & B Christmas standard written by Lou Baxter and Johnny Moore. It has been covered by many artists including Otis Redding, B.B. King and Chuck Berry. Perhaps the most notable cover of this song is performed by Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band recorded live at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, and included on the Christmas album A Very Special Christmas, released in 1987.

Johnny Moore's Three Blazers was one of the hottest blues attractions on the West Coast when their recording of "Merry Christmas, Baby" reached position #3 on Billboard's R & B Juke Box chart during the Christmas of 1947. Guitarist Johnny Moore commandeered an impressive lineup of players for the recording session, including bassist Eddie Williams, guitarist Oscar Moore (then of the King Cole Trio), and singer/pianist Charles Brown[2]. A version of this song, recorded by Bonnie Raitt and Charles Brown, is included on the Christmas album "A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 2", released in 1992.

Bonnie Raitt was born November 8, 1949. She is blues singer-songwriter who was born in Burbank, California.

As I have said many times, the type of music that I want to hear at any given time is a function of my mood. Sometimes I get in the mood to hear a female sing the blues. And when that happens one of my favorite female bluse musicians is Bonnie Rait. She has the ability to communicate the blues through her excellent vocals and her guitar playing. I also like many of the songs that she has written.

Six Strings Down Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan

Someone asked a question about the song Six Strings Down. And it reminded me that I own the DVD A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and that song is on it. I had loaned it out to so many different people, because I wanted them to see what other musicians thought about Stevie Ray Vaughan, that I was worried that I had lost it.

So I had to go to my DVD collection to see if I could find it. I had not viewed it in a few years. I hate to admit that I own so much music that even putting a lot of it on heavy rotation I still do not get around to listening to a lot of it. So much good blues music, so little time I always say.

It is a very cool DVD and the song Six Strings Down is a very cool song. Check out the YouTube video below.

This 1996 concert tribute underscores that common denominator through muscular performances from contemporary blues masters who readily (and appropriately) confirm the Texas guitarist as a true peer--it's no small matter that bona fide influences Buddy Guy and B.B. King cite the honoree on an equal plane with Vaughan's most obvious rock forebear, Jimi Hendrix.

King and Guy are among the stars who interpret Vaughan's own songbook in live performances backed by either his old band, Double Trouble, or the larger Tilt-a-Whirl Band. Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Dr. John, and the late guitarslinger's big brother, Jimmie Vaughan (himself a major figure since his days with the Fabulous Thunderbirds) all pay gritty musical homage noteworthy for powerhouse guitar work.

Valentines Day Blues - John Lee Hooker Bonnie Raitt - I'm In The Mood

Blues fans, I have always thought John Lee Hooker's I'm In The Mood was one of the sexiest blues songs around. The kind of song that makes me grab Mrs. F. and pull her close. Do you know what I'm talking about? But when you add the lovely Ms. Bonnie Raitt, it really puts me in the mood...

I love how JLH keeps saying, "play it baby, play it."

Happy Thanksgiving to You and Yours.

I was looking for some music to post today to say how thankful I am. The video below by Bonnie Raitt popped up, it seems to fit.

On Thanksgiving day, I like to ask other people why what they are thankful for, it often points out things that I have not even thought about being thankful for.
